How to fix printer issues related to Windows 10 June 8th, 2021 Updates

The article details how to install the TSP100 futurePRNT driver update to resolve Star printers and cash drawer issues related to the Windows 10 June 8th, 2021 Update (and newer)

This article provides instructions of the four (4) temporary methods currently known for addressing printers and cash drawer issues related to the Windows 10 June 8th, 2021 updates. Star Micronics is actively looking into this matter and directly working with Microsoft for prompt resolution.
While it is recommended to keep Windows 10 up-to-date to ensure it has the latest protections and features, best practices also include contacting your POS or Online Order software company to confirm these operating system updates will not adversely affect the software or peripherals’ operation, including the Star products they support.
Temporary Corrective Measures (select one)
- Change the access permissions of the printer queue
- Create a printer queue on a local user account.
- Switch to a local user while signed in as an administrator.
- Uninstall the update program.
- Install updated TSP100 FuturePRNT software Ver. 7.5.1
** NOTE ** All methods require administrator login or password. Please contact your administrator.
1. Change the access permissions of the printer queue
** NOTE ** This method also allows the local user to change the printer settings.
a) Open “Control Panel” and click “View Devices and Printers”.
b) Right-click on the relevant printer and select “Printer properties”.
c) Click “Change Properties” button on “General” tab.
d) Enter the password of the administrator.
e) When the property reappears, open the “Security” tab and select “Everyone” as “Group or user names”. Then check the [Allow] checkbox under “Manage this printer“.
After that, click “OK” button to close this property.
2. Create a printer queue on a local user account
** NOTE ** This method deletes the existing printer queue once, so the settings are returned to default.
a) Open “Control Panel” and click “View Devices and Printers”.
b) Right-click on the relevant printer and select “Remove device”.
c) Enter the password of the administrator.
d) Select “Yes” when asked for confirmation.
e) Unplug and insert the USB cable that connects to the printer. This will allow the printer queue to be re-created.
3. Switch to a local user while signed in as an administrator.
** NOTE ** This method will leave the administrator user signed in.
a) Perform a Full Shut down of the PC (Shift + Shut down).
b) Sign in as an administrator.
c) Open “Control Panel” and click “View Devices and Printers”.
d) Open the printer queue for the relevant printer.
e) Sign in as a local user. DO NOT sign out as an administrator at this time.
f) Use Windows without a reboot.
** NOTE ** After rebooting, it may not be possible to print. In this case, please repeat steps 1 through 5.
4. Uninstall the update program
** NOTE ** The patch also contains a fix for the vulnerability and uninstalling this patch will prevent this fix from being applied.
a) Open “Control Panel” and click “Uninstall a program”.
b) Click “View installed updates”.
(c) Input the following number on the “Search Installed Updates”.
** NOTE ** The number depends on the version of Windows.
Windows 10 version 2004, 20H2, and 21H1 : KB5003637
Windows 10 version 1909 : KB5003635
Windows Server 2019 : KB5003646
Windows Server 2016 : KB5003638
** NOTE ** If you applied more recent updates than the ones mentioned above, they may need to removed, one at a time, and starting with the most recently applied.
d) Select the update.
e) Click “Uninstall” button.
f) Click “Yes” on confirmation dialog.
g) If the User Account Control window is displayed, enter the password of the administrator.
h) Wait for the process to complete and restart your computer after the process is complete.
MPORTANT:
- This method is for TSP100IIIU, TSP100IIU+, TSP100IIIU (ECO), TSP100GT, and TSP100U.
- This method does not require uninstalling the previous/current FuturePRNT driver (v7.5 )
- The printers and printer queues that you added or created in the previous version can be used without modifications. There is no need to add or create new printers.
5. Install TSP100 futurePRNT Software Update (Ver 7.5.1 ~)
a) Proceed with a Full Shutdown by powering the PC [OFF] while pressing the Shift Key
b) Power the printer [OFF].
c) Power the PC and Sign in as an administrator.
d) Click “futurePRNT V7.5.1 FULL” on the “Recommended” section from the download site to download the updated driver.
e) Locate the compressed driver fole in the “Downloads” folder, right-click to extract files and run “Autorun.exe“.
f) The following window will appear. Click “Installation” on the menu.
g) Click “I Accept” after reading and agreeing to the software license agreement.
h) Click “Yes” and “Next” after the “User Account Control” window appears.
i) Select “Typical” and click “Next” to continue.
j) Click “Install” to begin the installation process.
k) At this point, all drivers and programs have been installed. Click “Finish” to close the wizard.
l) Click “Exit” to close the following window.
m) Reboot your PC, Power the printer [ON] and test.
