How to Test Star Products Using the StarPRNT SDK App

Introduction

This application note explains how to test a Star printer, cash drawer, buzzer or barcode scanner using the StarPRNT SDK application.

Supported Printers: SP700, TSP650II, TSP700II, TSP800II, All Portable Printers
Supported Peripherals: Cash Drawers, mC-Sound, Kitchen Buzzer, Scanners
Supported Interfaces: Bluetooth, Ethernet (LAN), USB (TSP100III on iOS only), USB-C (TSP100IV on Android only), Wi-Fi
Supported Environments: Android and iOS

 

Before you begin

Important! Ensure that the printer is installed, configured and working.
Important! When testing an Ethernet (LAN) or Wi-Fi printer, ensure the iOS/Android device is connected to the Wi-Fi network. When testing a Bluetooth printer, ensure the printer is paired to the iOS/Android device.
Important! All peripherals must be connected to any of the support printers referenced above.

Download and install StarPRNT SDK from the App/Google Play Store

Print Sample

Note: While these instructions were written using the MCP20 on iOS as an example, this document applies to all models indicated above.

1. Open the app and tap “Unselected State”.

2. Choose the appropriate interface.

Note: If you have multiple printers, perform a self-test to identify the IP Address or Bluetooth name. Use the following article to do so: Performing a Hardware Self-Test on Star Printers

Bluetooth: BD Name
LAN/Wi-Fi: IP Address

3. Choose the printer and confirm the model.

Note: The default emulation for Portable printers is ESC/POS (excluding SM-L200 and SM-L300) and therefore have two options to select when choosing a printer. The ones not labeled as StarPRNT are for ESC/POS.

4. Choose the paper size and “CashDrawer Open Status”.

Note: In this article 2” is used in this example for paper size. For the purposes of a print test, select either option for CashDrawer Open Status.

5. In the menu choose “Sample” and select the appropriate “Language”.

6. Choose either “Text Receipt” or “Raster Receipt”. The app confirms the action was successful.

Congratulations! You successfully performed a print test through the StarPRNT SDK application.

 

Cash Drawer Sample

Note: While these instructions were written using the MCP20 on iOS as an example, this document applies to all models indicated above. Additionally, cash drawers are not supported by Portable printers.

1. Open the app and tap “Unselected State”.

2. Choose the appropriate interface.

Note: If you have multiple printers, perform a self-test to identify the IP Address or Bluetooth name. Use the following article to do so: Performing a Hardware Self-Test on Star Printers

LAN/Wi-Fi: IP Address

3. Choose the printer and confirm the model.

4. Choose the paper size and “CashDrawer Open Status”.

Note: For the purposes of a cash drawer test, select any paper size. CashDrawer Open Status identifies the cash drawer’s status (open or closed). If the status differs from the cash drawer’s actual status, change from Low to High (or vice versa).

5. In the menu tap “Cash Drawer Sample”.

6. Choose “Channel1 (check condition.)”. The app confirms the action was successful.

Note: If the drawer fails to open, try again and choose “Channel2 (Check condition.)” and/or try reversing the ends of the cash drawer cable.

Congratulations! You successfully performed a cash drawer test through the StarPRNT SDK application.

 

Barcode Scanner Sample

Note: While these instructions were written using the MCP20 on iOS as an example, this document applies to all models indicated above. Additionally, barcode scanners are not supported by Portable printers.

1. Open the app and tap “Unselected State”.

2. Choose the appropriate interface.

Note: If you have multiple printers, perform a self-test to identify the IP Address or Bluetooth name. Use the following article to do so: Performing a Hardware Self-Test on Star Printers

3. Choose the printer and confirm the model.

4. Choose the paper size and “CashDrawer Open Status”.

Note: For the purposes of a barcode scanner test, select any paper size and CashDrawer Open Status to continue.

5. In the menu tap “Barcode Reader Sample”.

6. The app recognizes that a peripheral is connected by flashing Barcode Reader Connect. Use the accessory and when the data appears it confirms the test was successful.
